“I have come that they may have life and may have it abundantly”
Wow. Today I heard that Christ is the tree of life. The tree of life…this is something that I have heard many times before…but today it was as if I was hearing it for the first time. When God created the universe, He created the earth as its center. The earth is the center of the entire universe. In the center of the earth, He put a garden there (Gen 2:8)…Genesis does not mention any other place – it mentions a garden. God did not create a school for man to be taught in, or a factory for man to work in, but a garden! A garden is where things grow – gardens are full of life…this in itself tells us a lot about God – it tells us that God cares for life. This garden was even called “Eden”, which means “pleasure” in the Hebrew language. We should see from this something very important – God desires to make man happy, He desires to please man! How? Through life, through giving Himself to man as life. This is why, in the center of the garden, there was the tree of life (Gen 2:9). So the center of the center of the center of everything was the tree of life!
Besides this tree was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. When God created man, He warned man about his eating. He told man not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. He must have pointed this tree out to man, and told him that he could freely eat of any other tree, thus when He did this, He was indirectly placing man in front of the tree of life to eat, saying “eat this tree! Eat the tree of life!” So what is life? And what is this tree of life? In John 1:4 it says that “in [the Lord Jesus] was life”. This alongside the rest of the beginning of John 1 which refers to the beginning, speaks of creation. So this life that is in Him is the life signified by the tree of life. John 11:25 and 14:6 also say that not only is life in Him but He Himself is life! This life is not like our human life, the physical life. The Greek word for life in this verse is not bios (the physical life) or psuche (the soul life), but it is zoe, which is the eternal, uncreated, divine life of God! John 10:10b tells us God’s purpose, God’s desire and God’s intention in coming to earth as a man – “I have come that they may have life and may have it abundantly” God came to the earth in His incarnation to give us life! How do we get this life? Well, in John 15:1, the Lord said that He is the true vine – a tree! When we put this all together, we see that He is the tree of life! He is a vine tree! A vine tree produces fruit and fruit is for eating! In John 6:57 the Lord said “he who eats Me, he also shall live because of Me”. We need to eat the Lord! When we eat the Lord, we are taking Him in as life! God desires that we eat Him, so that we may have life! So our primary focus and care should not be for doing things which are outwardly right, holy, or good, but we need to focus on our eating! What are you eating? What are you taking in? We need to eat the Lord by taking in His word, by even praying over His word – pray-reading, by contacting Him in our spirit, by spending much time with Him to enjoy Him! This is the way we have life! -
hello.
Hi. Well, the purpose of this blog is to share the Christ that I’m enjoying, through writing or posting Bible verses, songs or photos etc…I just want to overflow what I am being filled with. Whether or not people like/agree with/enjoy/appreciate/even read this is not as important as the fact that…I just love the Lord! And when you love someone or enjoy something, you normally can’t help but talk about them/it, right?!? It is just a spontaneous response that you would express whoever/whatever you are spending time with/in. So, I hope to take in a lot of Christ, so that I speak forth, express, share much of Him!
